Secrets

To those of you who jumped straight to this page, may I suggest that you go back and read the previous four pages in this thread? The "secrets" disclosed within will simply not serve you unless they are part of a true understanding and expression of dietary and lifestyle practices which support good health. The "secrets" are not a quick fix or substitute for the basics. They are a lovely bonus for those who endeavor to master the basics.

The brilliance of Chinese Herbal Medicine lies not as much in the uniqueness of the pharmacopoeia, as in the unexcelled depth of understanding of the energetic nature of its components — individually and in combination. This wisdom is an integral part of the medicine, guiding and inextricably woven throughout the diagnosis, etiology, and treatment of all disease. This is how Oriental Medicine so boldly delineates itself from the piecemeal perspective of conventional medicine. Ayurveda is our only other medical system which shares this trait.

Let's now discuss two different classes of Chinese Herbal Formulas applicable to the goal of avoiding Wind Invasions.

I. Formulas to
release exterior Cold & Heat

For simplicity's sake, I'll present two extremely effective formulas in this category. Used as directed, these will bail you out of 80% of the situations you'll encounter — the common cold and flu, including the more virulent varieties of these afflictions. Since beginning practice, I have offered these formulas as a kit to be used by clients whose health is in such a compromised state that they can't afford the complication of a wind invasion. In the course of treatment of such an individual, the onset of a wind invasion can set their treatment back by weeks. But none of us really want a cold, so the kit has become very popular. Clients who have enjoyed the kit's benefits often choose to make it a gift to loved ones.

Here are the criteria I used when choosing these products:

  • The formulas chosen must be extremely effective in the widest range of circumstances.

  • They must be composed of the highest quality herbs, free from contaminants of any kind (heavy metals, chemicals added in growth or production, or pharmaceutical drugs).

  • Their form must facilitate both convenience and fast-acting results.

The kit is called FluFree. It contains two liquid formulas for the early intervention of a Wind-Cold or Wind-Heat invasion. Instructions are included. Both formulas are based on historical antecedents from the antiquity of Chinese Herbal Medicine. Both enjoy centuries of clinical efficacy. To keep things simple, I call them "Wind-Cold" and "Wind-Heat." Hard to get confused that way.

The formulas come in the fast-acting form of a liquid concentrate. These are not tinctures. They are concentrated extracts which preserve not only the light essential oils, often lost during standard high temperature extraction processes, but also the heavier oils not normally extracted during the cold temperature soakings typical of tinctures. They contain the essence of the whole herbs listed below:

Wind Cold

Wind Heat

Jing Jie
Fang Feng
Su Ye
Qiang Huo
Chai Hu
Zhi Ke
Fu Ling
Jie Geng
Chuan Xiong
Gan Cao
Sheng Jiang

Jin Yin Hua
Lian Qiao
Sang Ye
Ju Hua
Jie Geng
Bo He
Jing Jie
Xuan Shen
Niu Bang Zi
Qian Hu
Gan Cao

These formulas are extremely effective early intervention, and work best within the first few hours of onset; they are not intended for prevention. Prevention is best provided by a healthy lifestyle and competent guidance from your Doctor of Oriental Medicine. The formulas are also very specific to the described syndromes, and will not treat disorders such as stomach flu.

Future Medicine Now offers these tools in an effort to give clients greater control over their health. When used with conscientious attention to a healthy lifestyle, diet, and rest at times of vulnerability, you and your family can enjoy a new level of wellness.

Flu-Free is not intended to substitute for competent professional care. Frequent use of these formulas suggests that help from your Doctor of Oriental Medicine is needed to bring the body into a more robust and resilient state.

One More Thing...
Herbal ABX

Since this thread originates from concern about especially virulent and deadly pathogens, I'd like to recommend one more option for your survival kit. I use a formula called Herbal ABX for those times I sense that I'm dealing with a potent pathogen. This is a modern formula, designed by Dr. John Chen, who is both a Doctor of Oriental Medcine and a Doctor of Pharmacology. He is owner of Evergreen Herbs, and the combination of his extensive herbal and pharmacological knowledge and the input of his many talented clients and colleagues provides for some very effective herbal formulations. This powdered concentrate is one of them.

I recommend having this formula on hand for two specific situations:

  1. If FluFree products are not getting the desired results after a few days, you may be dealing with an especially virulent pathogen, or your wei qi just may not be up to the task. In either case, Herbal ABX is a likely choice to give you a needed advantage.

  2. If you know that you have been exposed to something lethal, Herbal ABX would be a good choice to use concurrently with the FluFree formulas from the onset. I would not be sparing in dosages.

"ABX" is medical notation for antibiotics, and this formula has strong antibiotic and antiviral action. As such, it may also be used for all types of infection (including gastrointestinal, hepatic, reproductive system, sexually-transmitted disease, urinary tract infections, etc.), with or without fever, inflammation, redness and swelling.

CAUTION!

  • This formula is contraindicated in cases of deficiency and coldness. Use with caution with weak digestive systems.

  • This formula is contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing.

  • Because antibiotic therapy may decrease the absorption of birth control pills by interfering with the normal flora in the intestines, women should use additional prophylactics if they are on antibiotic therapy and birth control pills concurrently.

II. Formulas to
Tonify the Immune System

The most common response I get to the mention of tonification is, "What's tonification mean?" To tonify, simply means to build, to strengthen, to give the body something it's lacking. This is a fun category, because modern science has provided a few improvements to traditional herbal formulas of this category, and some of them are quite exciting.

Before we begin, however, I'd like to clear up a common misconception regarding tonification. Oriental medicine recognizes that tonification attempted when a pathogen is present may actually tonify the pathogen, rather than one's wei qi (way chee), or immune system. In other words, when you're sick or getting sick is not the time to do this. Wait until you're well to take tonifiers. (And stop taking them if you get sick.)

It's best to attempt this in conjunction with the guidance of a competent Doctor of Oriental Medicine. There is an appropriate sequence to bringing balance to any body, and that sequence is not obvious to someone untrained in the medicine. Keeping that caveat in mind, let's look at a couple of outstanding options for tonification.

9405: Prelude to a new age
In Oriental Medicine

This little known Chinese herbal formula has the potential to become an icon of Oriental Medicine's entry into the 21st century. Designed as a cancer treatment, 9405 is a pharmaceutical grade formulation so powerful in its effect that the practitioner is compelled to reconsider some of the principles of tonification. In twenty years, this formula and some of it's ingredients will be in the history books, although relatively few practitioners are now aware of its existence, let alone its import.

Made in Taiwan of high quality herbal components, one ingredient hidden in the tiny print of its label — ginsenoside Rh2 — is what puts this formula in a class all its own. Over the millennia, the most sought after ingredients in Oriental medicine have been the tonifiers — those mythical ingredients to restore our bodies to their youthful vigor. Now, Western science (science..., not medicine) is capable of being Oriental medicine's unlikely escort into the modern era.

Please don't mistake my meaning — such ingredients will continue to be mythical. But the introduction of powerful herbal components, such as Rh2, occurring at a time when Oriental wisdom is wedging its foot in the door of the Western psyche, portends events greater than the sum of the parts. I know, I've gotten side-tracked, but this is very exciting to me.

What does 9405 mean to you? The gift of this well balanced formula is still being revealed. Drawing from the teachings of the traditional pharmacopoeia, here is a partial list of benefits:

  • Enhances immune function (this is a considerable understatement).

  • Chinese research shows strong suppression of cancer cell metastasis.

  • Relieves physical and mental fatigue.

  • Improves resistance to environmental stresses.

  • Induces strong sexual activity in both sexes.

  • Boosts vitality and longevity.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps sinensis has already enjoyed a degree of celebrity in western circles, although the energetics of this "herb" and its function in Oriental medicine are essentially unknown in the west. Its popular western use is for energy enhancement (imagine that...), but the intelligent use of cordyceps has far more refined benefits.

No other ingredient of the Chinese pharmacopoeia so fully embodies the essence of the enigmatic orient.
