À LA CARTE

Home > Our Menu > à la carte

À la carte is Dr. Swanback’s interpretation of “community based acupuncture”, a concept whose time has come. It celebrates the use of acupuncture in a far more effective format than has previously been available in this country.

This menu item is attractive to…

  • Anyone for whom a sliding scale fee structure is essential to receiving health care;
  • Those who appreciate the ability to savor their treatment for as long as they wish;
  • Someone whose condition requires a high frequency of acupuncture treatment;
  • Clients who don't require a private setting for their treatment;
  • Those who enjoy the camaraderie of a group setting for healing.

Filling a Unique Need

Consider, if you will, the following paradox:

Realities we find in… China USA
Number of health issues a client
typically presents with:
one
at least four
Typical course of acupuncture treatment
prescribed for each client:
daily for
10 days
once a week
for months

What’s wrong with this picture? The client in China walks into the clinic with one problem, gets daily acupuncture for ten days: problem solved. The client in this country walks in, often with dozens of problems, is prescribed acupuncture once a week and may never achieve the possible results.

Cultural differences and financial realities collide to create this “perfect healthcare storm.”

In China, Oriental Medicine is rarely the last option a client tries. In fact, most of the world's population uses Oriental Medicine. They know where to go to get what they need; they walk in and get it.

In the west, not only is Oriental Medicine the last option to be discovered, but diet, lifestyle, and pharmaceutical indiscretions have wreaked years of havoc on most individuals’ poor bodies by the time they reach someone who is capable of helping. By that time, the patient’s condition is usually a formidable project, perpetuated by neglect, bad habits, and lack of understanding. Often they are expecting a miracle cure rather than a realistic healing process.

Secondly, financial structures and time constraints in this country are quite different than in China. Western practitioners have imposed western business models on their acupuncture practices, limiting client treatment to business concepts rather than realistic requirements of the medicine.

Who loses? The client and the reputation of acupuncture both lose.

Enter À la carte

At Future Medicine Now we are implementing our version of a new model of acupuncture treatment to remedy the above conflicts with adequate, effective, and affordable care. We call it “à la carte.” Its intention is to provide the treatment you need, at a price anyone can manage.

Dr. Swanback has championed this dream for over two years, and our new facility has allowed her to make it a reality. Patient outcomes have been stunning.

Here’s what it looks like:

      • Sliding scale fee structure.
      • Treatment is received in a reclining chair.
      • The chair is one of several in a room where others are also receiving treatment.
      • Highly effective “global balance” techniques are utilized.
      • Removing clothing is unnecessary, since most treatment occurs on arms and legs.
      • Payment is made on arrival at the office.
      • Enjoy the treatment for as long as you like!
      • Leave when you’re ready, without the inconvenience of having to pay and schedule appointments when you’re in such a sublime state.
      • Get enough treatments per week to accomplish your health goals in days or weeks instead of months.

As Dr. Richard Tan is fond of declaring, “Acupuncture is a therapy!” By which he means that, like other “therapies”, acupuncture must be repeated at the appropriate frequency and length of time necessary to accomplish its magic.

À la carte makes that option available to everyone. We are already seeing that this model will do more to advance acupuncture in the west that any other influence. We invite you to experience, first hand, this historic paradigm shift in American health care!

Additional À la carte Services

If you wish to access Dr. Swanback’s expertise on aspects of Oriental Medicine beyond that of acupuncture, please know that she offers consultations in Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as dietary and lifestyle recommendations which bring Oriental wisdom to your particular situation. These modules are not based on a sliding scale payment method, but are reasonably priced options for getting the most out of Oriental Medicine. They are one more choice for individuals wishing to tailor their needs to financial realities.
