Spring,
And a Party!

Greetings from Future Medicine Now!

It’s time to celebrate!

We’ve enjoyed our new office for ten months now, and the effort to complete the remodel has been worth it. Projects remain to be completed, as they always will. But spring is arriving in New Mexico. The forsythia is blooming. Equinox has come and gone. Yang is on the ascendant. Tax time will be over. And it’s time to celebrate.

Save the Date

On Friday, April 16th, we invite you to join us for a Grand Opening Celebration.

As you know, we believe that the foods we eat have a profound influence on our health. What you may not know is that food, its preparation and enjoyment are a continual celebration for Sue and me. And for this day, we’d like to share some of those celebrations with you.

We’ll be cooking and grilling out on our back portico. With any luck the honeysuckle will be in bloom. There should be a sublimely thin crescent moon. Be prepared to try some foods you won’t find in local restaurants.

Our intention for this day is to set aside time to have relaxed conversations about the things we don’t ordinarily have time to discuss during your visits, and perhaps to meet some of the people in your lives that we don’t know.

Aside from good food and friends, we do have one event planned for the day…

The Type “O” Dilemma,
Gluten Sensitivity,
And Modern “Food”

At 5:30 Sue will be discussing her experience and personal research into heritage foods and traditional food preparation. This will take the conversation regarding blood type diets, food allergies, and gluten sensitivity far beyond the limited perspective of mainstream concepts. You will have a unique opportunity to gain insights into possible origins of these dilemmas, as well as options for adventurous exploration.

This will be an informal gathering, without a predetermined ending. Come and go as you please!

Okonomi-Yaki

We have experienced an exceptionally ‘wintery’ winter in our little microcosm of the Manzano Mountains. A favorite recipe on snowy days has been my version of okonami-yaki. My first encounter with this dish was from the 1970 classic, Tassajara Bread Book, but the recipe I’m going to share with you is a far departure from that one.

Okonomi means “what you like” or “what you want”, and yaki means “grilled” or “cooked”. So okonomi-yaki are light and savory Japanese pancakes of vegetables, meat, fish, or “whatever you like”. They can be made from whatever you have around.

My personal approach is to preserve typical Japanese flavors with my choice of ingredients. And I tend to make the vegetables dominant, rather than batter. They are quite delicious, and they’ve become one of Sue’s favorite methods of consuming vegetables.

Try them out. The recipe on our web site is appropriate for all constitutions. Okonomi-yaki lend themselves to many great toppings, but, as the Tassajara Bread Book implores, “No syrup, please.”

We hope to see you on April 16th!

Much Love,
Larry & Sue
